Creating Folders

Quick Create:

Shortcut: Cmd+Shift+N
1. Press Cmd+Shift+N
2. Enter folder name
3. Optional: Use slash for nesting
   Example: "Projects/2025/Q1"
4. Press Enter

Context Menu:

1. Right-click file tree
2. Select "New Folder"
3. Enter name
4. Press Enter

Yes Limit depth to 3-4 levels
Yes Use descriptive names
Yes Consider mobile navigation
No Avoid very deep nesting (6+ levels)
No Don't duplicate folder names at different levels

View Folder Info:

Right-click folder → Properties

Shows:

Tag Management

Tag Browser:

Access: View → Tag Browser
or: Cmd+Shift+T

Features:
- View all tags
- See tag counts
- Click to filter notes
- Hierarchical display

- Rename tags
- Merge tags
- Delete unused tags

Renaming Tags:

1. Right-click tag in browser
2. Select "Rename Tag"
3. Enter new name
4. All notes automatically updated

Merging Tags:

1. Select multiple tags (Cmd+Click)
2. Right-click → "Merge Tags"
3. Choose primary tag name
4. Confirm merge
5. All notes consolidated

Deleting Tags:

1. Right-click tag → "Delete Tag"
2. Options:
   - Remove from all notes
   - Keep in existing notes
3. Confirm deletion

Tag Autocomplete

Inline Completion:

1. Type #
2. Start typing tag name
3. Suggestions appear
4. Use ↑↓ to navigate
5. Press Enter to insert

Fuzzy Matching:

Recent Tags:

Most recently used tags appear first
- Last 20 tags tracked
- Ordered by recency

Creating Smart Folders

Based on Tags:

1. Right-click in sidebar
2. "New Smart Folder"
3. Name: "Active Projects"
4. Criteria:
   - Has tag: #status/active
   - Has tag: #project
5. Save

Based on Dates:

Name: "This Week's Notes"
Criteria:
- Created: Last 7 days
- OR Modified: Last 7 days

Based on Properties:

Name: "Incomplete Tasks"

Folder Best Practices

Yes Do:
- Use descriptive names
- Maintain consistent depth
- Create logical hierarchies
- Archive old folders
- Use templates for common structures

No Don't:
- Create too many top-level folders
- Nest too deeply (3-4 max)
- Use special characters
- Duplicate structure with tags
- Create single-file folders

Tag Best Practices

Yes Do:
- Use lowercase
- Be consistent
- Create hierarchies
- Review periodically
- Merge similar tags

No Don't:
- Over-tag (5-7 max per note)
- Use very similar tags
- Create too many levels (3 max)
- Forget to tag important notes
- Use spaces (use hyphens)
